FAQs for MCCB & Accessories

1. What is the difference between an MCCB and an MCB, and when must I use an MCCB for my project? While both provide circuit protection, the primary difference lies in their capacity and adjustability. An MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) is typically used for low-current applications (up to 125A) with fixed trip settings, making them ideal for residential or light commercial lighting and power circuits. An MCCB (Moulded Case Circuit Breaker) is designed for higher current loads—ranging from 16A up to 2500A—and offers adjustable trip settings. You must use an MCCB for main feeders, large motors, and industrial machinery where you need to coordinate "selectivity" (ensuring only the breaker closest to a fault trips) and handle much higher short-circuit fault levels (kA).

2. How do I choose the correct breaking capacity (kA rating) for MCCBs in GCC-based industrial plants? In the GCC, especially near high-capacity transformers in KSA or the UAE, prospective fault currents can be very high. Selecting an MCCB with an insufficient Ultimate Breaking Capacity (Icu) can lead to catastrophic device failure during a short circuit. We stock Schneider and ABB MCCBs with ratings from 16kA to 100kA+. For main distribution boards located close to a transformer, we generally recommend higher kA ratings (e.g., 50kA or 70kA). Our technical team in Dubai can help you interpret your fault level study to ensure the MCCB frame you choose—whether it's an EasyPact CVS or a PowerPact—meets the safety margins required for your specific site.

3. Are your MCCBs calibrated for the 60Hz frequency and high ambient temperatures of Saudi Arabia? Yes. Electrical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia (KSA) operates on a 60Hz frequency, which differs from the 50Hz standard in the UAE and many African nations. The MCCBs we supply from global leaders like ABB and Schneider are dual-frequency rated (50/60Hz). Furthermore, because ambient temperatures in outdoor panels in the Middle East can exceed 50°C, we provide MCCBs that are factory-calibrated for high-temperature performance. We can provide thermal derating tables to help you upsize your MCCB frame correctly, ensuring that the breaker doesn't "nuisance trip" due to the intense regional heat.

4. Can you provide the SABER/SASO Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC) for MCCB exports to KSA? Exporting industrial switchgear to Saudi Arabia requires strict adherence to the SABER platform regulations. As a specialized Dubai exporter, we assist our KSA clients by providing the necessary technical data sheets and manufacturer declarations required to obtain the Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC). Since MCCBs are classified under specific technical regulations by SASO, we ensure that the models we ship—such as the Schneider NSX or ABB Tmax series—comply with the latest Saudi standards, preventing costly delays at the Jeddah or Dammam ports.

5. Do you stock MCCB accessories like Shunt Trips, Auxiliary Contacts, and Rotary Handles in Dubai? One of the main advantages of an MCCB is its modularity. We maintain a comprehensive stock of genuine accessories in our Dubai warehouse to customize your protection. This includes Shunt Trips (SHT) for remote emergency tripping, Auxiliary/Alarm switches for BMS status monitoring, and Extended Rotary Handles for panel-door mounting. Whether you need to automate a motor control center in Nigeria or enhance the safety of a distribution board in Oman, we can configure and ship the complete MCCB kit—breaker plus accessories—in a single consolidated shipment.
