The Schneider Electric LRD12 is a TeSys Deca (formerly TeSys LRD) differential thermal overload relay with a 5.5 to 8 A setting range and a class 10A trip characteristic. It protects three-phase AC motors against overload and phase failure, and mounts directly onto TeSys D contactors to form a compact motor starter. Built to IEC 60947-4-1, it is a reliable, low-cost core component for motor control panels.
The LRD12 is used for motor overload protection in motor control centres and control panels across pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors, HVAC plant and general industrial machinery where the motor full-load current sits in the 5.5 to 8 A band. Set the adjustment dial to the motor nameplate full-load current for correct protection.
It connects directly to the bottom terminals of Schneider TeSys D contactors from LC1D09 to LC1D38 to build a direct-on-line starter, or can be mounted separately on a DIN rail or plate using the LAD7B106 terminal block. A thermal overload relay handles overload and phase failure only, so pair the LRD12 with a matching contactor to switch the motor and an upstream MCB or MCCB for short-circuit protection to complete the motor-starter assembly. Our team can confirm the correct contactor and relay combination for your motor.
What size motor does the Schneider LRD12 overload relay protect?
The LRD12 has a thermal setting range of 5.5 to 8 A, so it protects three-phase motors whose full-load current falls in that band, which is approximately a 3 kW motor at 400 V. Always set the dial to the motor nameplate full-load current rather than the maximum.
Which contactors is the LRD12 compatible with?
The LRD12 mounts directly onto the bottom terminals of Schneider TeSys D contactors from LC1D09 to LC1D38 to form a compact motor starter, with no bracket required. It can also be mounted separately on a DIN rail or plate using the LAD7B106 terminal block, ordered separately.
Does the LRD12 provide phase-failure protection?
Yes. The LRD12 is a differential thermal overload relay, so it is sensitive to phase failure and phase imbalance. If one phase is lost or the current becomes significantly unbalanced, it trips faster than a standard overload would, which helps prevent single-phasing motor burnout common on GCC and African sites.
Does the LRD12 protect against short circuits as well as overload?
No. The LRD12 provides overload and phase-failure protection only, with a class 10A trip characteristic to IEC 60947-4-1. It must be paired with an upstream circuit breaker or fuse for short-circuit protection, and with a contactor to switch the motor, to form a complete motor starter.
Can you supply and ship the Schneider LRD12 to Saudi Arabia and the GCC?
Yes. Electrical Junction stocks genuine Schneider TeSys overload relays in Dubai for fast UAE and GCC dispatch, and can help with SASO and SABER documentation for shipments to Saudi Arabia. Contact our team to match the relay with the correct contactor for your motor.
