The TENGEN TGM3DC-400M/2300 (400A) is a 400A, 2-pole moulded-case DC circuit breaker rated for 500V DC, built for switching, isolation and overcurrent protection in higher-current direct-current systems — solar photovoltaic arrays, combiner boxes, and DC power and communication systems. It uses a DC-rated magnetic-blowout arc-extinguishing design to safely interrupt the sustained arc a DC fault produces, which a standard AC breaker cannot do. It is certified to IEC 60947-1 and IEC 60947-2 and carries a built-in isolation function, so it can also serve as a load-break isolator in the DC circuit. As a 400-frame device it is physically larger than the 250-frame — plan panel space and busbar layout accordingly.

Applications & Compatibility
Main DC protection and isolation for larger solar PV strings and arrays operating up to 500V DC, where load current exceeds the 250-frame range.
Combiner-box and inverter-input protection at currents up to 400A.
DC power distribution and communication DC systems requiring reliable overload and short-circuit protection.
2-pole configuration: both poles are wired into the DC circuit so their arc-breaking capability combines to interrupt the full 500V DC — do not switch a 500V DC circuit through a single pole.
For systems above 500V DC (e.g. 750V or 1000V DC), the 4-pole TGM3DC-400 version is required — the 2-pole model is rated to 500V DC.
Operates at up to 50°C without derating; derating factors apply above 50°C and above 2000m altitude.
Why Buy From Electrical Junction

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this 2-pole 400A breaker be used on a 1000V DC solar system?
No. In this series the 2-pole version is rated to a maximum of 500V DC. For 750V DC or 1000V DC systems, the 4-pole TGM3DC-400 version is required, where poles are connected in series to handle the higher DC voltage. Contact us and we will supply the correct pole configuration for your system voltage.
What does the 35kA rating mean, and does it change with voltage?
35kA is the rated ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) at 500V DC for this M-type 400-frame breaker — the maximum DC fault current it can safely interrupt. At 250V DC the same breaker offers a higher 50kA. Because Ics/Icu is 100%, it can break its rated fault current and remain in service. Select the breaker so its Icu exceeds the prospective short-circuit current at your installation point.
When should I choose the 400A frame instead of the 250A?
Choose the 400-frame when your continuous DC load current is above the 250-frame range (up to 250A) and up to 400A. The 400-frame is a physically larger device (approx. 150 mm wide versus around 78 mm for the 250-frame) and uses M10 mounting, so allow for the extra panel space and heavier busbar connections when specifying it.
Can this breaker also be used as a DC isolator?
Yes. The TGM3DC-400 has a built-in isolation function certified to IEC 60947-2, so in addition to overload and short-circuit protection it can be used to safely isolate the DC circuit for maintenance.
